¡Pura Vida! ~ Costa Rican Rainforest Yoga Retreat to Celebrate the Pure Life
La Fortuna, Costa Rica Retreat with Dr. Jess Place & Christy Holland
Hola, ticas y ticos! ¡Pura vida!
In Costa Rica, pura vida is a saying as well as a way of life. Translated, pura vida means the simple or pure life. On this yoga retreat, we will get back to the simple joy of being in the present moment. Unplug from the chaos of the daily routine and celebrate simplicity in the beauty of this natural paradise.
Join us March 3-9, 2024 for a 6-night, all-inclusive yoga retreat in the tropical rainforests of Costa Rica at a sustainable rainforest ecolodge located north of San Jose and central to the country.
Led by Christy and Jess, both RYT 500 yoga teachers certified through Yoga Alliance, the practices of yoga and meditation will take place in a large, private, open-air bamboo yoga pavilion surrounded by the rainforest. The yoga pavilion is well-equipped with mats, blankets, straps, and blocks. Sessions will consist of an assortment of yoga styles, including Ashtanga vinyasa, Baptiste power, Hatha, and yin yoga. In addition to yoga, meditation will be led in the vipassana lineage, otherwise known as insight meditation.
During the day, you can lounge by the pool, nap in a hammock, hike up to a volcano, swim in a crater lake, go zip lining, join a tropical birding safari, relax in the solar-heated jacuzzi, or get a massage by a professional masseuse. The world-class dining is farm-to-table; all produce and dairy are home-grown from the regenerative farm.
Do as much or as little as you want on this retreat of a lifetime. We hope you will join us! ¡Pura vida!

Dr. Jess Place
Dr. Jess Place has been practicing yoga since 2014; however, she attained her RYT 200 yoga teaching certification in 2019 through Mind Body Heart Yoga Studio and has been teaching yoga ever since. In 2023, Jess graduated from the Online Yoga School: Yoga & Ayurveda Center with her RYT 300 yoga teaching certification. She has taught in numerous yoga studio and gym settings, as well as in nature.
In addition to teaching yoga, Jess owns a small business called North Georgia Mindfulness Project, where she creates and facilitates Mindfulness curriculum for various groups or individuals. In this role, she has led countless meditation sessions, workshops, and retreats. Among group meditation settings, Jess has facilitated sessions for individuals in recovery, parents of young children, adolescents, and educators, as well individual sessions with people who want a more customized experience. She is also an online adjunct English professor with the American College of Education. Jess is an Aquarius, her spirit animal is a deer, and her favorite natural environment is the beach. She resides in North Georgia with her husband Russ, her two daughters, and her two dogs. Her family enjoys reading, hiking, camping, kayaking, and mountain biking together.
Christy Holland
Christy Holland’s yoga journey actually started on a stand-up-paddleboard (SUP). She taught on the water and loved it so much that she decided to get certified on land as well. Christy has been teaching since 2013 and loves giving the gift of yoga to her students. Christy’s yoga philosophy includes a mind, body, yoga approach to fitness. Every person, every pose, every day holds a different journey to your practice. Letting go of your expectations on how you should look in the mirror and embracing how your body is communicating in each pose is key to a successful practice.
Her education in the field includes a Masters in Exercise Science with a focus in Health and Wellness, as well as being a Certified Health Coach. Her yoga certifications include SUP yoga and paddle, a 200 hr RYT in Power Yoga, and a 300 hr RYT in Vinyasa yoga. In addition, she has additional certifications in TRX yoga along with Aerial yoga. Christy believes yoga is synonymous with life. Yoga is a practice, not a skill; there is always opportunity to learn and grow!

Travel Insurance
We cannot emphasize more the importance of travel insurance. As we all know, especially as travelers, “life happens.” Whether it’s family, work, mother nature, or a change of heart, it is important to be prepared in case you need to unexpectedly change your travel plans. Often for less than $150, you can purchase a travel insurance policy and be protected in the event that you need to make a change or need to be covered financially prior to or during your trip.
We have partnered with two insurance companies: Trawick International and CSA Travel Insurance (available for U.S. Residents only).
Read more about our insurance partners and their policies here. We encourage you to research the insurance company and policy that best meets your needs.
