Step out of the busyness of your life and join Alix for a week of inner and outer exploration in the stunning natural landscape of Costa Rica, where the jungle meets the ocean. Immerse yourself in nurturing practices for your body and mind, and reconnect to nature and the wisdom of your own spirit as you ‘Return to Center’.
The venue was built with intention and commitment over the years to sustainable practices, and with Natural and Cultural heritage protection. The beautiful and unique open-air yoga studio lends to a sense of blending with the sounds and sights the environment. The Costa Rican token phrase ‘Pura vida”, or “pure life”, is truly embodied here.
Each day will include both active and restorative yoga practices in the morning and afternoon, and guided meditations to begin and end the day. There will be ample free time to spend connecting to nature through activities including surfing, SUP, snorkeling, whale and bird watching, hiking through the rainforest, swimming in the ocean or fresh water swimming hole, or simply resting and enjoying wholesome and tasty meals with locally grown fruits and vegetables.
This retreat will include a karma yoga project opportunity of volunteering at a local sea turtle conservation site, and an optional excursion to ride horses to visit and swim at a local waterfall.
The Mindful Hatha yoga will weave together meditative practices from various traditions along with carefully sequenced active and restorative poses, gentle unwinding somatic movements, vinyasa, and breath work. Detailed alignment, experiential anatomy, sensory awareness, and mindfulness is emphasized to encourage deep listening and a compassionate understanding of one’s own mind-body with the overall intent of cultivating prajna (insight and wisdom) within the yoga experience on and off the mat. Meditation sessions will include walking, sitting, and reclining rest for Yoga Nidra, or the ‘yogic sleep’. Classes are suitable for all levels and modifications of poses will be given as needed.

Alix began her study of yoga as a teenager when her mom brought her to her first yoga class after discovering she had scoliosis. She draws from her own experience of finding balance in her body and mind to compassionately assist others on their own unique path of healing and discovery.
A student for over twenty years, Alix has been teaching yoga since 2007. She is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 500-hour level, completing 300 hours of training with her teachers Tias and Surya Little of Prajna Yoga based in Sante Fe, New Mexico where she continues to study. She received her Yoga for Scoliosis Teacher Trainer certification through senior Iyengar teacher Elise Miller and continues to study yoga for back care and scoliosis with Deborah Wolk from NYC
As a licensed massage therapist, Alix brings a deep understanding of anatomy and alignment into her teaching and hands-on adjustments. Alix specializes in yoga therapeutics and yoga for back care and has led workshops, classes, and retreats both locally and internationally.
Alix finds inspiration and solace in nature and spends her free time exploring the outdoors through rock climbing, hiking up mountains, skiing, and surfing. At home, she enjoys gardening, cooking, playing music, and lying in savasana.
“Alix’s yoga retreat was a good balance of meditation and yoga practice. Alix started each day with heart opening readings, meditation, and walking meditation. The yoga was a good combination of active movement, stretching, Hatha, and restorative. We closed each day with Yoga Nidra. It was a week of spiritual growth and physical strengthening, a very positive experience.
I truly appreciated and enjoyed the retreat and thank you for the gift of your leadership and talent.” ~Barb, Previous Retreat Participant
“The yoga space perfectly supported our meditation and yoga. Never been in a place that was designed to respect the land, animals, and people so well. Yoga space felt like I was enveloped in a lotus blossom. Couldn’t have been more wonderful!!” ~Carmen, Previous Retreat Participant
