Our Costa Rica retreat will incorporate well-planned, mindful, yet enjoyable yoga sequences that are tailored to improve strength, stability, balance, and functionality, followed by soothing pranayama and meditation. No one-size-fits-all instruction here! Beginners, seasoned practitioners, and everyone in-between will receive the kind of personal attention and instruction that catalyzes personal breakthroughs and supports lasting change. Each morning we will begin with the yoga practice in a beautiful, serene setting, then enjoy different excursions in-site and off-site, and end the day with a chance to slow down in restorative poses, Yoga Nidra and meditation.
Style of Yoga
The style of yoga that I teach is Iyengar inspired; an approach to yoga firmly based on a disciplined and deeply research system developed over 75 years by Yogacharya BKS Iyengar who practiced daily for many hours at a time during his 96 years – exploring, studying, writing and teaching.
What is unique about Iyengar Yoga is that it is characterized in the practice of asana (poses) and pranayama (breath-work) with the innovative approach emphasizing precision and alignment, planned sequencing, timing and the use of props. This approach has allowed people of varying ages, levels of health and fitness to enjoy the benefits which a sustained practice can bring – the ability to face the physical, mental and emotional challenges contemporary life with strength, vitality, mobility, thoughtfulness and equanimity.
What to expect from this method of yoga?
• A safe and systematic progression of yoga postures to develop each participant’s ability.
• Sequencing that develops strength, flexibility, stamina, concentration, and body alignment.
• Individual adjustment suited to each participant.
• Precise use of language.
• Demonstration and teaching of specific points to develop understanding and intelligent action.
• Integration of the yoga philosophy with the practice of asana.
• Incorporation and relevance of practice into daily life.
• Ways to use yoga to ease various ailments and stress.
• Use of props, such as blankets, blocks, and straps, to facilitate learning, enhance individual experiences of the poses and adjust the poses to individual needs.

Every retreat is unique and, as such, the itineraries are ever-changing! We finalize the itineraries about 3-6 weeks before the retreat, but after 10 years of hosting retreats, we do have a general idea of what most schedules look like.
Most retreats include one-to-two daily yoga classes. One class takes place in the morning, either just before or just after breakfast. After the first class and meal, you have free time to explore, relax, or take part in optional add-on activities. Lunch (if included in your retreat) will take place midday, during this free time. There is then, usually, an afternoon class followed by dinner. Occasionally some teachers choose to offer an evening restorative class or group gathering after dinner as well.
In addition, there is usually one dedicated “excursion day” in which we do not have scheduled yoga classes. This is a day for people to take advantage of some of the more involved tour and excursion offerings and is always a lot of fun!
Again, this is a very general look at what your retreat schedule could be. We work closely with the teachers to design unique itineraries that reflect their style and the group that’s traveling with them. Once your specific retreat itinerary is complete, we will send it out via email, usually two or more weeks before the retreat starts. Please keep in mind all retreat itineraries are subject to change.

You will stay at a sustainable, rainforest eco-lodge hotel providing comfortable accommodations amidst acres of lush gardens, hiking trails, and a secluded jungle. The atmosphere at the retreat center is simple, healthy, and relaxed. Rooms are single, double, or triple occupancy with fans and hot water. The eco-lodge has a beautiful chlorine-free swimming pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are prepared daily and include healthy vegetarian options. The food is organic and local when available, prepared with nourishing ingredients and lots of love. We do our best to honor your registration type. If enrollment pairings are such that we cannot honor the occupancy type you have selected, we will contact you 90 days prior to your trip. Wanjira Njenga is a bodyworker and yoga educator. She has been a student of yoga for over 30 years, and now celebrating her 12th year as a yoga educator in Montreal: www.wanjira.com. She originally trained as a Sivananda Teacher in Madurai, India -200hrs then went on to train in the Iyengar Inspired yoga with Hart Lazer, in Montreal – 300hrs. Wanjira continues her training in Therapeutic yoga – currently over 600 hours with various teachers. She is a trained Massage Therapist, Structural Myofascial Release Therapist, Reiki practitioner, Reflexologist and Reflexology teacher. Her yoga classes are unique as she brings a deep understanding of anatomy and alignment into my teaching and hands-on adjustments. Her toolbox is wide and rich!
Wanjira teaches all level of classes – Beginner, Intermediate, Gentle/Restorative, and Therapeutic. She loves teaching yoga in a way that is accessible to all.
