puglia yoga retreat

Come to Italy with Nicki Doane and have the time of your life! If you have always dreamed of going to Italy for a yoga retreat then look no further. The retreat center in the southern region of Puglia is truly a dream come true. This private oasis has everything you need to relax and rejuvenate from head to toe. The property was a monastery that has been lovingly restored with all the modern amenities while maintaining its old-world charm. The yoga studio is gorgeous and has plenty of props and space with natural light and wood floors. There is a meditation chapel as well as a massage studio so you can pamper yourself all day long. The guest rooms are lovely and the architecture is very unique to the south of Italy- you have to see it to believe it.  And don’t get me started on the food which is out of this world! The meals will blow your mind. They treat cooking like a spiritual practice and use a 1 km philosophy. That means that everything we eat is grown or produced within 1 km of the retreat center and that includes the wine. This is a week to unwind and savor all that Italy is famous for- good food, good wine, beautiful landscapes, and warm friendly people.

Nicki will teach two yoga classes a day. The morning sessions will be Maya Yoga based with plenty of detailed alignment-based asana practice and the afternoons will be more restorative in nature with meditation practice daily. All levels are welcome. This will be a yoga retreat with an emphasis on retreat and relaxation. After this year of quarantines, stay at home measures and lockdown, we could all use something to look forward to for next year. This is the retreat you’ve been waiting for and it is sure to sell out so register and get your deposit in now!

Nicki Doane

Nicki Doane

Nicki Doane is an internationally recognized yoga teacher, known for her ability to make the practice of yoga accessible to everybody. She began her study of yoga at the age of 18 while attending the University of Massachusetts. From her first class, she knew she had found something special and deeply familiar. While she began to practice yoga on a purely physical plane and because it felt good, it became apparent some years later that there was more to Yoga than she originally thought. In 1991, Nicki traveled to Mysore, India to study with Sri K Pattabhi Jois, the master of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. She fell in love with the practice and continued her studies with Pattabhi Jois until his death in 2009. What she experienced on that first trip was a radical realization that yoga is much more than a physical practice. Yoga affected her deeply on an emotional and spiritual level. After that she was hooked! As she delved deeper into the Ashtanga practice she became curious about her teacher’s teacher and his lineage. She learned that Tirumalai Krishnamacharya had been Pattabhi Jois’ teacher and also the teacher of BKS Iyengar. This led her to study Iyengar Yoga with Mr. Iyengar, his children and with many of his senior teachers as well including Gabriella Giubilaro and Patricia Walden, at his institute in Pune, India. Nicki has always believed that her practice continued to grow and evolve due to her study and practice of both of these systems of Yoga. Nicki continues to study to study yoga with senior teachers and believes that a great teacher must always remain a dedicated student.

Nicki’s teaching has grown out of her practice and her deep faith in yoga and she chooses to honor her students as individuals first and foremost. Nicki’s style combines asana, pranayama, philosophy, and poetry and her classes are strong and accessible to everyone. Nicki uses humor in her teaching to set her students at ease and she is considered to be very relatable and down to earth. She is known as a Teacher’s teacher and loves igniting the spark of yoga in her students.

Nicki lives on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii, where she owns and directs the Maya Yoga Studio on the North Shore of Maui. She has been featured in numerous articles and has graced the cover of Yoga Journal magazine. She is featured in 2 Ashtanga Yoga videos available through Gaiam and in 9 videos entitled Maya Yoga Vinyasa on her youtube channel. She is currently finishing a book on Yoga for beginners.

Nicki teaches workshops and teacher training courses at her studio on Maui and travels all over the world conducting workshops, teacher training, and retreats.

Puglia

While on your retreat you will have the opportunity to take part in the following excursions:

  • Local Market in Martina Franca: Just a short trip from the center, you will be delighted to visit this quaint and historic village on their market day. The old quarter of this town is a picturesque scene of winding alleys, blinding white houses, and blood-red geraniums. There are graceful baroque and rococo buildings here too, plus airy piazzas and curlicue iron-work balconies that almost touch above the narrow streets. This town is the highest in Murgia and was founded in the 10th century by refugees fleeing the Arab invasion of Taranto. You will have the chance to walk the cobblestone streets and see old churches, amazing architecture, and shop at the open-air market. This trip is 3-4 hours and the cost is 12€.
  • Day Trip to Ostuni Village & Beach Ostuni: Known as the “white town,” Ostuni Village is located near the sea. Ostuni shines like a pearly white tiara, extending across three hills with the magnificent gem of a cathedral as its sparkling centerpiece. It’s the end of the Trulli region and the beginning of the hot, dry Salento. The city boasts its nearby pristine beaches, historical architecture, and its surroundings, as well as a vibrant olive and grape agribusiness. You will have the chance to roam through this enchanting village and also have time to visit a nearby beach. This is a full-day excursion and is 38€.
