Join Hugh and Rebecca in the beautiful Delphi Valley, County Mayo, in the west of Ireland to nourish your body, mind, heart, and spirit with practice, community, and adventure.

During the formal retreat days, we will cultivate awareness and open our hearts through teachings of compassion, loving-kindness, and equanimity following traditional mindfulness practices—sitting meditation, movement, walking, and enjoying delicious organic, locally sourced meals. Our mornings will begin with movement and meditation flowing from the beauty of the fertile land and waters, with seamless practice supported throughout the day to cultivate renewal, calm, and healing.

The second half of the week will be spent exploring the scenic, spiritual, and welcoming west of Ireland, including visiting ancient monuments and other historical locations; relaxing in the sauna and spa; and doing whatever feeds your soul. Organized group and solo activities will be offered. Evenings will be spent with a group dinner to share our day and enjoy each other’s company.

Our retreats are shaped by our intention to immerse ourselves in the culture of where we are and to be open to the adventures that present themselves. This week will offer a balance of practice, rest, and play. We have discovered through leading and attending many retreats that traveling together and saying yes to life and its opportunities at the moment create a true connection with joy, lasting friendships, and gratitude for life’s abundance.

High Byrne

Hugh Byrne

Hugh has practiced meditation for thirty years and taught mindfulness meditation since 2000. He is a senior teacher with the Insight Meditation Community of Washington and teaches classes, retreats, and workshops in the U.S. and internationally.

As a teacher and social activist, Hugh works to align the inner life with the outer—applying the wisdom and compassion of Buddhist teachings to the social, political, economic, and environmental concerns of our time. He has helped lead trainings for refugee aid workers in the Middle East and Africa and teaches meditation in the U.S. Congress, in non-profit organizations, and in workplace and community settings.

Hugh was born and raised in London, England of Irish parents. He is trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Somatic Experiencing, a mind-body approach to healing trauma. He is the author of two books on mindfulness and habit change: The Here-and-Now Habit and Habit Swap. He holds a law degree from London University and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). 

Rebecca Hines

Rebecca first encountered mindfulness practice through her first yoga teacher in her early 20s, from whom she learned the power of awareness available right here in our body, in every moment.  The heart of her practice is creating continuity of awareness both “on” and “off the cushion.”  She cherishes the freedom and joy that come from living in presence—and being a support to others in living more freely. Her passion is a continual exploration of ‘dancing with life’—the dance of work-life balance, relationships, health challenges, aging, and bringing wise action to the challenges facing the world. She is a long-time student of Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

Rebecca began teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in 2007 in the Washington DC area with Hugh and is a teacher with the Insight Meditation Community of Washington. She is on the mentoring faculty for the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach (in conjunction with Sounds True and the Greater Good Science Center), and a teacher with Cloud Sangha.  She holds a BA in psychology from Wellesley College, an Master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and certification in holistic health counseling from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She has worked at HHS since 1993 contributing to and managing a range of federal health programs. She lives with her partner Hugh in Silver Spring, MD. Visit for more.

Getting There 

You will be booking your flights for Shannon Airport (SNN). Before booking tickets, please be sure you have received your official confirmation note that the retreat has met its minimums. There will be one group airport shuttle each way based on our flight window guidelines. Be sure your flights align with the provided flight windows if you wish to use the group shuttle. The drive time to the center is approximately 2.5 hours.

We cannot emphasize more the importance of travel insurance. As we all know, especially as travelers, “life happens.” Whether it’s family, work, mother nature, or a change of heart, it is important to be prepared in case you need to unexpectedly change your travel plans. Often for less than $150, you can purchase a travel insurance policy and be protected in the event that you need to make a change or need to be covered financially prior to or during your trip.
