Not only will you partake in daily alignment-based vinyasa and relaxing restorative classes, but also the surrounding rainforest will offer unique healing that only nature can offer. This retreat is open to any yogi, or potential yogi, looking to unwind from the stressors of everyday life and return home feeling refreshed and focused.

Kristin teaches an alignment-based vinyasa class that borrows moving with breath from the Ashtanga tradition and precise alignment from the Iyengar system. The result is a focused practice that forces us to slow down, pay better attention, make better choices and thus act more skillfully — which, as the Bhagavad Gita says, is the definition of Yoga.

In this vein, each day will offer an in-depth look at the different families of yoga poses in accessible ways for participants of all levels. Days will end with a quieting, more restorative practice, allowing participants the stillness to take in the beautiful environment.

Sample Itinerary

Every retreat is unique and, as such, the itineraries are ever-changing! We finalize the itineraries about 3-6 weeks before the retreat, but after 10 years of hosting retreats, we do have a general idea of what most schedules look like.

Costa Rica Yoga Retreats

Most retreats include one-to-two daily yoga classes. One class takes place in the morning, either just before or just after breakfast. After the first class and meal, you have free time to explore, relax, or take part in optional add-on activities. Lunch (if included in your retreat) will take place midday, during this free time. There is then, usually, an afternoon class followed by dinner. Occasionally some teachers choose to offer an evening restorative class or group gathering after dinner as well.

In addition, there is usually one dedicated “excursion day” in which we do not have scheduled yoga classes. This is a day for people to take advantage of some of the more involved tour and excursion offerings and is always a lot of fun!

Accommodations

Beautiful, eco-friendly accommodations situated amidst acres of lush gardens, hiking trails, and a secluded jungle trail leading to Playa Uvita, a beautiful beach (only a 15-minute walk). The atmosphere of the retreat center is simple, healthy, and relaxed. Rooms are single or double occupancy. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are prepared daily and include healthy vegetarian options along with fish and/or chicken. The food is organic when available and prepared with nourishing ingredients.

Gorgeous bungalow style accommodations all with huge ocean views, where you can see Ballena National Marine Park, the rainforest, and much more. All of the rooms are made from reforested wood from our trees planted on the same land 20 years ago. The architecture includes local craftsmanship using wood, stone, shell, and sand.

KRISTIN OLSON

Kristin’s yoga journey began at age 14 when she stumbled upon an Ali McGraw yoga video at Blockbuster. Since then she has been practicing for nearly 26 years and hopes to be practicing for decades more. She loves noticing how her own practice, and others’, ebbs and flows depending on different stages of life, yet always knowing the constant is a disciplined yoga practice, whether that is rigorous asana or quieting meditation.

Kristin’s teaching has been strongly influenced by internationally esteemed yoga teacher Natasha Rizopoulos, with whom she earned both her 200-hour and 500-hour Yoga Alliance-compliant teacher certificate. She has assisted Natasha with YogaWorks teacher trainings and at Kripalu Yoga Center continuously. This unique mentorship has allowed her to lead students through intelligent sequences with precise instruction. She has also study regularly with revered master Iyengar yoga teacher Patricia Walden.

Kristin leads workshops and teacher trainings for beginner students as well as advanced practitioners. She is a contributing writer for Boston Yoga and LA Yoga magazine and writes a monthly column Poise dedicated to emphasizing the true essence of asana.

You will be booking your flights for the San Jose International Airport (SJO). Before booking tickets, please be sure you have received your official confirmation note that the retreat has met its minimums. There will be one group airport shuttle each way based on our flight window guidelines. Be sure your flights align with the provided flight windows if you wish to use the group shuttle.
