Devon Schmidt, 500-RYT
It was in 2003 while enrolled at the CCAD that Devon Schmidt first discovered her love for yoga. Through Hatha Yoga classes at the YMCA in downtown Columbus, Ohio, she came to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of the asanas and noticed how wonderful she felt after class. It was while learning about yoga’s spiritual side that Devon was inspired to become a yoga teacher.
In 2010 Devon completed the World Peace Yoga 200hr Teacher Training Program in Springboro, Ohio. In 2016 Devon also completed the 300hr Advanced Teacher Training Program at Yoga On High and is registered with Yoga Alliance as an ERYT-200 and RYT-500. She has also completed the Shanti Mom Prenatal Yoga and Color Me Kids Trainings, as well as Yoga Therapy and Yoga Nidra Level I. Along the way she has been fortunate to study with David Swenson, Doug Keller, Richard Freeman, Rodney Yee, and many more inspiring teachers. She has also completed Ayurvedic and Thai Yoga Massage Trainings with Kelly Lewis and Annette Dennis, respectively.
In 2011, Devon opened Day Yoga Studio in Dayton, Ohio, to provide yoga and wellness services to the community. Along with teaching open yoga classes, she also facilitates workshops, conducts private individual yoga sessions, directs 200-hour, 300-hour, and 500-hour RYS teacher training programs at Day Yoga, and offers Ayurvedic Massage and Reiki sessions. In 2014 Devon opened the second Day Yoga location in Vandalia, Ohio.
Devon teaches many various yoga styles and loves to incorporate the more spiritual aspects of yoga into her classes, encouraging her students to delve into self-inquiry and stay present through pranayama. All the while, Devon still finds time for her other job: being a mom to four small children and two rescue dogs.
‘The Winking Mermaid’ has always had a playful, creative passion for dance and music; so yoga was a natural fit for her. After taking just a few classes she was determined to teach yoga, wanting to share with others the wellness benefits she experienced.
In 2010 Chelsea began teacher training and finished completely transformed. Living yoga, Ayurveda and embodying the flow was truly a lifestyle to which she grew accustomed. Supported by teachers, family, and friends, Chelsea began teaching in 2011 after becoming certified in 200hr RYS Prana Flow Yoga.
Two years later, Chelsea began an independent yoga study in New York City. She took classes from acclaimed instructors with a variety of teaching styles and was certified in 100hr Prema Vinyasa Therapeutic Yoga. Chelsea now teaches a range of yoga classes from Restorative to Power in the Dayton, Ohio area.
Chelsea believes that playfulness is mandatory in order to maintain one’s sanity in life. Her Prana Flow teaching style transcends fluidity and grace in alignment with the basic principles of Ayurveda and yoga.
She believes that we all need to mutually nurture, love and respect ourselves and others. Symbolic of an elemental approach to all things in yoga and life, Mermaids are playful yet graceful. This is all relative when effort and grace collide—beauty is born.
Life. Live it. Love it…
“I have been going to Devon’s classes for over a year now and every time I gain more insight over the practice of yoga! She guides the class in a graceful flow, allowing us as students to go into a mediation with the movement! Her voice is always calm and loud enough to be heard. From the opening of the class to the closing of the class, she is full of passion for where she is at. Her passion of yoga and serving others the benefits of the practice shine through her teaching! She shows the students in the class modifications if needed, and helps others deepen! She connects with all students in her class, which makes everyone feel special! She is an amazing teacher and person and I feel so blessed to know her and attend her classes.” –Emilie Jones
“ Devon is Day Yoga. She has created a studio that has a spirit, energy, and calmness, and this also reflects in the classes that she teaches. When I practice with Devon she generates an environment of positive energy. Her classes are strong and powerful and I feel more confident in my practice after I have finished. She is encouraging and supportive and I feel secure to deepen my practice during my time in her classes. Devon is a wonderful example of someone who embraces yoga and wants to share this passion with the community that has gathered around her studio.” -Cara DiSalvo
“I found my way to Devon’s yoga studio (Day Yoga Studio in Dayton, Ohio) several years ago and spend increasing amounts of time there. I not only take classes and workshops, but I am finishing my 200-hour YTT next month under her direction and training program. She is an excellent yogini and yoga teacher. Just wanted to comment on Devon’s yoga classes. I often attend her 10 am Hot Vinyasa Class on Saturday mornings. I love the flow, the modifications, and adjustments she offers along with both English and Sanskrit translation. Her Vin to Yin class during teacher training was very relaxing because she offered props where needed to make it comfortable which hasn’t always happened in other Yin Yoga classes I have taken. I also assisted while she taught a Beginner’s Class, which she, by the way shared her love of the new yogi starting from the beginning. She is continually taking new workshops and sharing what she learns with us all. Devon led the YTT students on a Silent Meditation Walk several weeks ago, which was absolutely wonderful. She is respectful of other teachers and studios in the community. Devon also gets involved in community projects on a volunteer basis. She offers lots of different types of yoga and has many yoga instructors teaching at her studio. This is really a huge service with unlimited benefits to the community.” –Mary Gorniak, RN, MS, CNM, FNP, 200 hr student YTT
