Marcus Kleveland

Marcus Kleveland (26) from Dombås, Norway, is one of the world’s most innovative and influential snowboarders, specializing in slopestyle and big air. He made history at age 16 by landing the first-ever backside quad cork 1800 in competition, instantly raising the bar for the sport.

Marcus is a 2x World Champion, has won 13 X Games medals, including golds in Slopestyle, Big Air, and Knuckle Huck, and has represented Norway at the Winter Olympics in both 2018 and 2022.

Known for his creative, technical riding and unique style, Marcus inspired the creation of the X Games Knuckle Huck competition after videos of him performing creative tricks off knuckles went viral. After suffering a serious knee injury in 2018, he made a remarkable comeback, further cementing his reputation for resilience and determination.

His approach to snowboarding has inspired a new generation and helped push the progression of freestyle riding globally. Off the slopes, Marcus is passionate about music, gaming, and motorsports. He continues to be a leading force in snowboarding, constantly redefining what’s possible in the sport.

When you’re not in session or on retreat time, Trysil offers a full range of winter experiences to support adventure, restoration, and play.

Snowboarding & Skiing

Trysil is Norway’s largest and most celebrated ski destination, with over 70 groomed runs, four mountain faces, and multiple terrain parks. Whether you’re carving wide-open groomers or exploring technical steeps, Trysil offers something for every high-intermediate to advanced skier and snowboarder. The resort’s extensive lift system makes access smooth and efficient with minimal lines and maximum terrain.

Off-Piste & Backcountry Touring

As part of the retreat, you’ll experience three guided off-piste/backcountry sessions led by certified local guides. In addition, participants who want to explore more can arrange private ski touring excursions or book additional off-piste outings (weather permitting).

Additional Winter Activities

For those who want to diversify their snow experience, Trysil offers a variety of outdoor adventures beyond traditional alpine riding:

  • Cross-Country Skiing: Over 100 km of groomed Nordic trails through peaceful, forested terrain.
  • Snowshoeing: Explore the natural beauty of Trysil at a slower, more meditative pace.
  • Dog Sledding: Take a guided husky tour through snowy landscapes—a local favorite for guests of all ages.
  • Snowmobile Safaris: High-energy guided rides for thrill-seekers (available seasonally).
  • Tobogganing & Sledding Hills: Pure joy and a great group activity for playful fun.
  • Night Skiing: A selection of trails remain open under the lights into the evening.

Booking for additional activities can be arranged through the resort’s experience center or concierge desk upon arrival.

Spa & Wellness

After a day of movement, adventure, and reflection, retreat guests can unwind at the on-site alpine spa, one of the most celebrated wellness centers in the region. Designed with panoramic mountain views and Scandinavian elegance, the spa features:

  • Heated indoor and outdoor pools for total relaxation
  • Multiple saunas, including Finnish dry and steam options
  • Outdoor jacuzzi surrounded by snow for a Nordic contrast experience
  • Relaxation lounges with heated stone seating and calming views

Prerequisites

This program is designed for high-intermediate to advanced snowboarders and skiers who are eager to ride with intention, explore new terrain, and grow both on and off the mountain. Participants should feel confident navigating most groomed runs and variable snow conditions.

There will also be options to ride off-piste and backcountry terrain, weather permitting, as well as optional time in the terrain park with Marcus, depending on group interest and conditions.

Throughout the program, the group will be divided into smaller riding groups based on ability and preferred style, allowing for more personalized coaching and a smoother on-mountain experience.

To participate fully, you should be in good physical condition, with the endurance to ride or ski multiple days in a row and the agility to adapt to changing terrain. While we won’t be hiking long distances, there may be short hikes in the backcountry depending on snow conditions.

This is not a learn-to-ride program, but rather a chance to elevate your skills, mindset, and connection to the mountain through a dynamic mix of guided riding, personal exploration, and community.

If you have any questions about whether this program is the right fit for your level or fitness, we’re happy to connect before registration.

Getting There

True Nature specializes in curating and offering the best retreat experiences. For your flights, we recommend that you use Google Flights or a trusted travel agency.

The retreat takes place in Trysil, Norway, home to the country’s largest and most iconic ski area. Despite its tranquil mountain setting, Trysil is easily accessible from several major travel hubs.

Closest Major Airport:

  • Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL) – Norway’s main international airport
  • Approx. 2.5 to 3 hours by car or shuttle to Trysil

Transportation Options from Oslo (OSL):

  • Private Shuttle or Group Transfer: We will be offering optional shared transportation to and from Trysil for retreat participants. Details and sign-up will be available after registration.
  • Bus: Direct Trysilekspressen buses run from Oslo Airport to Trysil several times per day (advance booking recommended).
  • Rental Car: For those preferring independence, rental cars are available at Oslo Airport with straightforward highway driving to the resort.

Other Nearby Airports (less commonly used):

  • Scandinavian Mountains Airport (SCR) – Located on the Swedish border, approx. 45 min to Trysil, but with limited seasonal flights
  • Trondheim (TRD) and Bergen (BGO) – Further away, less practical for retreat access

We recommend booking your arrival into Oslo Airport (OSL) by early afternoon on Sunday, March 8, to allow for a relaxed transfer to Trysil in time for evening check-in and our opening dinner.

Travel Insurance

We cannot emphasize more the importance of travel insurance. As we all know, especially as travelers, “life happens.” Whether it’s family, work, mother nature, or a change of heart, it is important to be prepared in case you need to unexpectedly change your travel plans. Often for less than $150, you can purchase a travel insurance policy and be protected in the event that you need to make a change or need to be covered financially prior to or during your trip.

We have partnered with Trawick International (available for U.S. Residents only). Read more about their policies here. We encourage you to research the insurance company and policy that best meets your needs.
