Cultivating Joy – Iyengar Yoga in Costa Rica

Seeking Joy? Step out of your routine and join Sara for an Iyengar Yoga Retreat in Costa Rica. 20th-century yoga master, B.K.S. Iyengar, said, “A great boon of yoga, even for beginners, is the happiness it brings…”  And there is no better place to immerse yourself in happiness than the land of Pura Vida, translated as “Pure Life”.

Costa Rican culture is relaxed, and these days almost uniquely, optimistic and connected to the natural world.  Through Sara’s compassionate and experienced guidance, participants will explore the beauty of their own embodiment against the backdrop of lush tropical forests and sandy beaches. In an open-air pavilion, twice-daily yoga practices will introduce tools to spark joy on and off the mat. All levels of students are welcome.

Your retreat also includes plenty of time to enjoy all that Playa Uvita has to offer. Hiking, surfing, swimming, and birdwatching are all possible right on the property. Self-care is encouraged through napping and/or spa treatments, depending on your temperament. Nourishing meals are sourced primarily from a nearby organic farm. Adding to the joy will be a group excursion by boat through a Mangrove forest and the opportunity to help out a Marine Turtles Rescue Project.

Iyengar Yoga

The beauty of Iyengar Yoga is that it can be practiced in all stages of life by all bodies. With an emphasis on safe and systematic progression, the benefits are far-reaching and will assist the practitioner in every aspect of daily living. Through skilled instruction and practice, one learns to penetrate beyond the physical body to the inner layers of mind, energy, and spirit, gaining vitality, clarity, and calm confidence.

Iyengar Yoga was developed by B.K.S. Iyengar (1918 – 2014), an acknowledged modern master of yoga who promoted yoga as an art, science, and philosophy.

Each room at this center is unique, and the size of the rooms varies.

A day at Playa Uvita:

Find yourself surrounded by primary and secondary forests, just steps from the river and the beach, where nature is full of surprises. Time is yours to find monkeys, birds, the cutter ants, the elusive sloth, or the jaguarundi.

Enjoy the scents and shapes of tropical flowers, take a dip in the river or pool, sit on a rock, and relax, looking for the lizards and dragonflies playing on the surface or the fish circling in the deep.

Open your senses to the beautiful sounds of nature where the wild and calmness balance perfectly. Be surprised by the monkeys in the canopy, a monarch butterfly fluttering between the leaves, a manakin, and its majestic dance … Nature will recharge you to the maximum. Keep your eyes open to be able to observe the fauna and flora that surrounds you.
