Journey to Tranquility: A Yoga Retreat in France

According to yoga philosophy, peace isn’t a final destination but a continual process along a winding path. Unfortunately, there’s no shortcut to arriving at indefinite tranquility. Luckily you can take a break from your regular routines, demands, and environments to reorient and refill your inner reserves on a nourishing, peace-inducing, luxurious Journey to Tranquility Yoga Retreat in France.

A highlight of this week-long yoga vacation to Normandy is the opulent accommodations. What once was a small hub of fishermen and farmers has now grown into a serene sanctuary that perfectly balances modernity with its rich historical roots. The medieval mansion turned eco-friendly elegance is known for unrivaled hospitality.

You’ll be supported to release the stress and tension of your daily life as all parts of you are exquisitely tended in Tara’s twice-daily expertly crafted classes. Yoga sessions include philosophy talks, chanting, meditation, purposeful active movement, and deeply restful Restorative Yoga.

At night you’ll sleep well in a supremely comfortable room that is eloquently decorated to tell a unique story to inspire and rejuvenate you. The center’s commitment to high quality sleep is felt in the sumptuous top-tier, French-made bedding.

Not all yoga happens on the mat and the spaciousness of the week’s schedule allows plenty of time just for you. Book a massage, connect with others in unhurried conversations, read a book or bask in the afternoon sun. Enjoy a special evening that will unfold with laughter, good company, and the celebration of France’s diverse and extraordinary wine heritage with a wine tasting.

Also included in this retreat is a tour of one of the most picturesque villages in France called Veules-les-Roses. You’ll embark on an adventure into the diverse history, coastline, and culture of the wider Normandy region to learn the fascinating stories of the 19th century villas, cottages, and watermills. Then stroll through the quaint artisans market and enjoy a French picnic in the countryside. The day ends with a visit to the incredible site where Claude Monet, the impressionist painter, came to capture the different lights of the Alabaster Coast. Admire a magnificent panorama on the cliffs and venture down the Gorge des Moutiers towards the sea.

From your stay in the supremely comfortable accommodations in this historic manor, to the exquisite meals made from locally sourced ingredients, the empowering and settling yoga practices, and the friendly welcoming energy of the other participants, you will be supported in reorienting on your path to tranquility. Join Tara and an uplifting, encouraging community of like-minded souls on this lavish and unforgettable yoga vacation.

Welcome to Harmony In Normandy, a peaceful sanctuary nestled in the rolling green countryside of Normandy. More than a retreat venue, this is a place of warmth, presence, and genuine connection—where guests are welcomed as extended family and invited to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with what truly matters.

Once a private refuge for business leaders seeking reflection and renewal, the château now carries forward a legacy of intentional living and thoughtful hospitality. Sustainability and mindful living are woven into daily life here. Natural, eco-conscious cleaning products are used throughout the property, supporting both guest wellbeing and environmental care. In the kitchen, meals are crafted with love using locally sourced ingredients, many harvested directly from the onsite vegetable garden. Tara Lemerise

Tara Lemerise, E-RYT 500, is a yoga teacher based in the Washington, DC area and is a lifelong seeker. What she has wanted and needed has changed over time, including community, freedom, boundaries, healing, compassion, achievement, truth, spiritual connection, creativity, stability, and intellectual discourse. In every case, the tradition of yoga has always offered her whatever she has been seeking.

Tara discovered yoga when she was studying philosophy and religion in college in 1999 and began teaching in 2005. Over the past 25+ years of yoga study and 20+ years of yoga teaching, she has engaged with great love and reverence with many different styles of yoga, including Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara, Yin, and Kriya Yoga.

Three things Tara values the most in her own practice and in her teaching are agency, self-trust, and empowerment. Students can feel this encouragement in her teaching and consider her to be a well-traveled guide, not an authoritarian who promises all of the right answers. Tara’s teaching is full of joy and compassion. She is an inclusive and responsive teacher, offering classes with dogma-free authenticity in harmony with honor for tradition and inspired by relatable stories rooted in yoga tradition that feels relevant to everyday life.

Testimonials

“Tara is a master teacher as well as a calm and steady leader. She creates a community of support where every person on her retreats feels valued and included. You will not regret working with Tara.” – Mary B.

“Tara is such an amazing teacher! She’s methodical in sequencing, builds on each pose, offers variations throughout. She encourages everyone to try their best, she gives agency for students to do whatever they need for their bodies, she’s genuine in her interactions, and even when she challenges you to try hard things, she makes it fun. There were many poses I didn’t realize I could do until she challenged me to do them.” – Pam S.

“My experience with Tara was unexpectedly extraordinary. I booked the yoga retreat in Greece without knowing Tara or her yoga practice. I was merely aiming for a relaxing, safe getaway in a beautiful place. Much to my surprise, I met Tara and felt an immediate connection. She was warm, welcoming and supportive of me given the circumstances of being new to her ‘studio’. What I took away from the retreat was more than being refreshed and reenergized – but a part of a new community of incredible people, all tied to Tara.  I can’t think of a more generous and inclusive yoga teacher.” – Erin K

For the wine aficionados, a trip to the local vineyards is a must—learn about the intricate process of winemaking and treat your palate to the exquisite flavors of Normandy’s finest wines. And finally, don’t miss out on the weekly local markets, where you can mingle with the locals and sample a variety of local produce, cheeses, and other artisanal creations.
