Luminous Living in the Sacred Valley
Join us in Peru’s Sacred Valley, nestled among the majestic Andes Mountains—mountains that local traditions have long regarded as living presences, sometimes called the “Luminous Beings.” Surrounded by soaring peaks, terraced hillsides, ancient pathways, and vibrant culture, we will gather for a week of practice, reflection, connection, and exploration.
At Yoga for Mental Health, we believe that meaningful transformation happens when inner practice and outer experience come together. This retreat invites you to step outside of your routine, rekindle a sense of awe, reconnect, and immerse in a landscape that has inspired seekers, pilgrims, and explorers for centuries.
Together we will explore what it means to live a luminous life.
Many in our community will recognize the spirit of the student-teacher invocation we often share before practice:
“May our practice be nourishing.
May it be luminous and light.
May we be courageous and trusting.
For peace within ourselves and for all beings.”
These aspirations will guide our time together as we move, meditate, hike, learn, rest, and connect.
Our days will include yoga, mindfulness, contemplative practices, group discussions, and opportunities for both adventure and stillness. Some moments will invite inward exploration—examining where you have been, where you are now, and what is emerging next. Others will invite outward exploration as we experience the beauty, history, and culture of the Sacred Valley.
This retreat is also about community. Whether you are returning from a previous YMH retreat or joining us for the first time, you will be welcomed into a supportive circle of fellow travelers. Old friendships are renewed. New friendships are formed. Shared meals, meaningful conversations, laughter, and quiet moments in nature become part of the journey.
The Sacred Valley offers a unique backdrop for reflecting on the relationship between past, present, and future. Ancient ruins and enduring traditions remind us that we are part of something larger than ourselves. At the same time, the mountains invite us to be fully present—to notice what is alive in this moment and to listen for what may be calling us toward.
Throughout the week, Margi will weave together the Yoga for Mental Health approach: evidence-informed mindfulness and movement practices, nervous system regulation, self-inquiry, connection to nature, and compassionate community. Practices will be accessible, adaptable, and welcoming to a wide range of experience levels.
Expect a retreat that balances structure and spaciousness, learning and leisure, effort and ease. There will be time to explore local villages and markets, wander scenic trails, journal, rest, and simply take in the beauty of the Andes.
For those who wish to extend their journey, an optional two-day excursion to Machu Picchu will be offered following the retreat.
Come for the mountains.
Come for the practices.
Come for the adventure.
Leave with new perspectives, renewed friendships, and a deeper connection to yourself, community, and the path ahead.

Accommodations
The retreat center’s name translates as “Love from the Ancient Forest.” It is nestled in an oasis of native plants and fruit trees, nourished by a magnificent waterfall in the Sacred Valley of Peru. This lovely spot is in the Andes Mountains and is home to the twelve mountains known as Apus—“luminous beings.” Those who come to the center have the opportunity to commune directly with these mountains, as well as with the local curanderos and pacos (healers), who engage with us for ritual and Despacho ceremony.
The guests at this center enjoy delicious vegetarian and vegan (protein added for dinner) meals with locally grown and lovingly prepared ingredients. Each guestroom is a reflection of the Peruvian culture of the Sacred Valley. The entire retreat center embodies kindness, love, and wholeness that seem to permeate throughout the grounds.
