Journey to Heart and Hearth

A Yoga Retreat in Scotland

The meeting place between the lowlands and highlands of Scotland is the perfect setting to reconnect with the possibilities in your life on a yoga retreat shaped by the stories of the yoga goddesses. While often absent from classical yoga, the householder’s tradition celebrates the resilience and power of the incredible women who embraced their divinity while tending the hearth and making manifest the vast potential of consciousness.

On this week-long retreat, the rugged natural beauty of the Scottish countryside first invites you to expand your energy and sense of possibility outward. Then we gather inward to practice yoga, connecting your own embodied experiences with the relatable and inspiring stories of the goddesses in accessible movement and deeply restful Restorative Yoga practices.

Not all experiences of yoga will happen on the mat during this retreat. The schedule provides plenty of time for you to do whatever will nourish you most. Gather in the cozy seating areas of the retreat center to connect in genuine conversations with like-hearted fellow travelers. Participate in a mindfulness session with the animals in the on-site animal sanctuary. Soak in one of several hot tubs on the property as you take in the sweeping views of the Trossachs mountain range. Immerse yourself in nature on a hike through the 45 acres of the private retreat center property. Learn more about Scottish history and culture on the group excursion to the medieval town of Stirling where you will see the largest and most historically and architecturally important castles in the country. Book massages, take naps in the understated luxury of your well-appointed room, enjoy a whiskey tasting, and more.

Journey with Tara and a supportive, encouraging community of like-minded souls to gather at the hearth and connect with your heart on this epic, empowering and inspiring yoga vacation in Scotland.

Tara Lemerise, Level 3/E-RYT 500, is a yoga teacher based in the Washington, DC area and is a lifelong seeker. What she has wanted and needed has changed over time, including community, freedom, boundaries, healing, compassion, achievement, truth, spiritual connection, creativity, stability, and intellectual discourse. In every case, the tradition of yoga has always offered her whatever she has been seeking.

Tara discovered yoga when she was studying philosophy and religion in college in 1999 and began teaching in 2005. Over the past 25+ years of yoga study and 20+ years of yoga teaching, she has engaged with great love and reverence with many different styles of yoga, including Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara, Yin, and Kriya Yoga.

Three things Tara values the most in her own practice and in her teaching are agency, self-trust, and empowerment. Students can feel this encouragement in her teaching and consider her to be a well-traveled guide, not an authoritarian who promises all of the right answers. Tara’s teaching is full of joy and compassion. She is an inclusive and responsive teacher, offering classes with dogma-free authenticity in harmony with honor for tradition and inspired by relatable stories rooted in yoga tradition that feels relevant to everyday life.

When she’s not teaching yoga, she is studying to be a Sanskrit translator, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, reading novels, and wearing jeans.

Testimonials

“Tara is a master teacher as well as a calm and steady leader. She creates a community of support where every person on her retreats feels valued and included. You will not regret working with Tara.” – Mary B.

“Tara is such an amazing teacher! She’s methodical in sequencing, builds on each pose, offers variations throughout. She encourages everyone to try their best, she gives agency for students to do whatever they need for their bodies, she’s genuine in her interactions, and even when she challenges you to try hard things, she makes it fun. There were many poses I didn’t realize I could do until she challenged me to do them.” – Pam S.

“My experience with Tara was unexpectedly extraordinary. I booked the yoga retreat in Greece without knowing Tara or her yoga practice. I was merely aiming for a relaxing, safe getaway in a beautiful place. Much to my surprise, I met Tara and felt an immediate connection. She was warm, welcoming and supportive of me given the circumstances of being new to her ‘studio’. What I took away from the retreat was more than being refreshed and reenergized – but a part of a new community of incredible people, all tied to Tara.  I can’t think of a more generous and inclusive yoga teacher.” – Erin K

We cannot emphasize more the importance of travel insurance. As we all know, especially as travelers, “life happens.” Whether it’s family, work, mother nature, or a change of heart, it is important to be prepared in case you need to unexpectedly change your travel plans. Often for less than $150, you can purchase a travel insurance policy and be protected in the event that you need to make a change or need to be covered financially prior to or during your trip.

We have partnered with Trawick International (available for U.S. Residents only). Read more about their policies here. We encourage you to research the insurance company and policy that best meets your needs.
