Cultivating Peace and Presence in the Sanctuary of Southern Spain with Hugh Byrne and Rebecca Hines

Join Hugh and Rebecca for a week in Costa del Sol, nestled in a peaceful retreat center overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, to nourish body, mind, heart, and spirit, immersing in present moment awareness.

For the first half of the week, we will cultivate awareness and peace through teachings of compassion, lovingkindness and equanimity following mindfulness practices in noble silence: sitting meditation, movement, walking – nourished by healthy, delicious locally-sourced meals. Our days will be supported through the beauty and stillness of the Andalusian countryside, with a flow of seamless practice through the day to cultivate renewal, calm and healing.

The second half of the week we will explore the scenic Costa del Sol; enjoying nature tours and hikes; visiting historical sites and museums in nearby Málaga; relaxing on the beach; and engaging in whatever feeds your soul. Organized group and solo activities will be offered. Evenings will be spent with a group dinner to share our day and enjoy one another’s company.

Our retreats are shaped by our intention to immerse in the culture of where we are and to be open to the adventures that present themselves. When we travel to new places out of our daily routine, it helps create conditions to see more clearly, to experience the presence of peace that is always here and available. The retreat offers a balance of practice, rest and play. We have discovered through leading and attending many retreats that traveling together and saying yes to life and its opportunities in the moment create true connection with joy and gratitude for life’s abundance.

Take time for yourself on a solo adventure, bring a friend or a bunch, or focus on quality relationship time and bring your partner. Sign up for this life-affirming retreat to the beauty of southern Spain, you’ll be glad you did!

Rebecca Hines

Rebecca Hines

Rebecca encountered mindful awareness through her first yoga teacher in 1993, who helped her discover the power of presence available right here in our body, in every moment.  The heart of her practice is creating continuity of awareness both ‘on’ and ‘off the cushion.’  She cherishes the freedom and joy that come from living in presence—and being a support to others in living more freely. Her passion is a continual exploration of ‘dancing with life’—the dance of work-life balance, relationships, health challenges, aging, and bringing wise action to the challenges facing the world. She is a long-time student of Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

She began practicing Vipassanā/Insight meditation in 2000 with Tara Brach and began teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in 2007. Rebecca has studied, learned and practiced with a range of teachers over the decades and is a teacher with the Insight Meditation Community of Washington, serves as mentoring faculty for the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, and is a teacher with the Banyan Together online sangha. She is certified as a holistic health counselor from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and is a Wayfinder Life Coach. She worked in public health for over 30 years managing a range of federal health programs. She offers individual mentoring and coaching to support meditation practice and cultivate well-being and peace in daily life. She lives with her partner Hugh in Silver Spring, MD. Travel Insurance

We cannot emphasize more the importance of travel insurance. As we all know, especially as travelers, “life happens.” Whether it’s family, work, mother nature, or a change of heart, it is important to be prepared in case you need to unexpectedly change your travel plans. Often for less than $150, you can purchase a travel insurance policy and be protected in the event that you need to make a change or need to be covered financially prior to or during your trip.

We have partnered with Trawick International (available for U.S. Residents only). Read more about their policies here. We encourage you to research the insurance company and policy that best meets your needs.
